More than 750 schools, libraries, and bookstores from coast to coast will celebrate Children’s Book Week from May 2 – May 8. Children’s Book Week originated in the belief that children’s books and literacy are life-changers. Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, young people across the country participate by attending events at schools, libraries, bookstores, celebrating at home, and engaging with book creators both online and in person.

This year marks the 103th anniversary of Children’s Book Week. The theme for this year is How do you BOOK?  We would love to see how your child “books”. Let us know by either posting on our Facebook page or emailing us (hlibrary@hayward.wislib.org) a photo and your child will be entered into our daily raffle drawing. Our library is proud to host the following events in celebration of Children’s Book Week and Star Wars® for the week:

Monday, May 2, 2022, while supplies last pick up a Take-N-Make Kit to make a Yoda puppet!

Tuesday, May 2, 2022, Storytime in the Library at 10:15 am. Join us for a special Storytime presented by Nina from Northwest Connection Family Resources. Storytime is open to all children but is recommended for birth to preschool. Storytime includes a book reading and craft and is offered every Tuesday morning at 10:15 am and sponsored by Northwest Connections Family Resources.

Tuesday, May 2, 2022, Lego Club from 6 pm to 7 pm. We will present a Lego challenge followed by 40 minutes of build time. Geared toward ages 3 to 18, children under the age of 12 must have adult supervision. Children’s creations will be placed in the library’s display cabinet until the end of May for all to enjoy!

Please note that the dog is real and children may choose the characters they want in their photograph. While waiting for your photo to be taken, we’ll provide a craft you can work on! All attendees get a chance to win a Star War’s Mandalorian “The Child” night light.
