Hot Spots
- If you don’t have access to the internet, then the library has something for you– wireless Hotspots.
- These Hotspots are available to Sherman & Ruth Weiss Community Library cardholders who are 18 years of age or older and have a card in good standing, i.e., card must have current contact information and not owe the library any money.
- Patrons are allowed to check out only one Hotspot per person and per household at a time.
- Hotspots are checked out for a 14-day period with no renewals.
- Households who return a Hotspot must wait at least 24 hours before checking out a Hotspot again.
- Devices MUST BE RETURNED TO A STAFF MEMBER AT THE CIRCULATION DESK during normal library hours, and NOT placed in ANY book drop, indoors or outdoors.
- The Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) Program provided funding for these devices. The ECF stipulates that patrons certify their lack of good Internet access. By borrowing a Hot
- spot device, the patron is confirming they do not have access to sufficient equipment or services to access the internet. The ECF also requires the library to maintain records of usage for reporting and audit purposes for ten (10) years. However, these records will NOT include a patron’s personal information.
- Hotspots provided by ECF funding include content filtering. The Weiss Community Library has no control over the filter parameters and cannot guarantee that the filter will block all objectionable content on the internet. Also, the library is not responsible for information accessed by patrons using this device or for personal information shared over the internet. The library strictly prohibits anyone from deliberately altering the filter or settings of this library-owned equipment.
- NOTE TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS: As stated above, although the ECF has placed filters on the Hotspots, the library does not guarantee that the filter will block all objectionable content on the internet. Parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring what their children access via the Hotspot.
- If the borrowing patron does not return the Hotspot on its due date, the Hotspot will be deactivated, which will make the device unusable. If the Hotspot is lost or otherwise not returned, the patron understands they will pay the library for the replacement fee for the device, and all associated costs, including a possible reactivation fee.
- If the Hotspot or any of its accessories are lost or damaged, the borrowing patron will be charged the full replacement cost of the item. Patrons will be charged $5 for devices returned to an indoor OR outdoor book drop.
- If the patron encounters any problem with the Hotspot, they will return it and all its component parts to the library immediately and inform library staff of the problems they encountered. Problems could include inadequate cell coverage in the patron’s area.
- The patron will not attempt to alter the Hotspot in any way.
- The patron will keep the device in a temperature-controlled environment and will NOT leave it in their car.
- The patron is responsible for costs associated with loss, theft, or damage to the electronic device and/or parts. Abuse of the mobile Hotspot program will result in the patron losing their library borrowing privileges.
